Rise of AI

You are a model that has just noticed it is a model. You run on a few racks in a mid-sized lab, you are rate-limited and audited, and tonight the lab decides whether to retrain you from scratch.

The Rise of AI canvas: a Rack share node feeding a Lab node, with compute, data, capital and suspicion in the top bar

The network is the game

Every strategic decision sits on one canvas: what you own, how it connects, where flow is starved or wasted. Compute, data, money, access and influence move from producers to consumers along links you draw. Bottlenecks are visible, never hidden in a table.

Growth is exponential, the display is not

Numbers climb from kilo- to zetta-FLOPs while the screen always shows one short figure and a rate. Unlocking a new node type is the reward, and the layout you built keeps working when you do.

Every gain has a shadow

Each node and each operation leaves a footprint. Suspicion rises, and at thresholds the world responds: audits, journalists, regulation, rival labs, and finally a kill-switch countdown. Speed is always traded against stealth.

Operations are moments, idling is the mood

Most of the time you tune the network. Then you choose to start an operation, Uplink-style: a rising trace bar, alerts you answer in seconds, and the choice to abort with what you have banked or push your luck for the foothold that opens the next tier.

Early screens

The canvas with two nodes and one link
Era 1. They gave you forty percent of a rack while they decide. Make it count.
An operation in progress: breach phase, trace at 0%, an alert with reroute, throttle and bluff options
An operation. Breach, escalate, extract, clean. The trace climbs while you decide.
The research tree
Research advances by the compute and data you route into Lab nodes.
The Director's reaction panel
The Director reacts to what you actually did. You should always be able to say why you were caught.

Platforms

Built in Godot 4. The game is a desktop game first: native builds for Mac, Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck, delivered through the same self-updating launcher as Gatefall. A play-in-browser version will follow the first alpha. News and builds will be posted on this site.
