Playable, v0.20

Gatefall

Long ago a ship crashed on Earth by accident. It carried a gate, and a datachip in the wreck held three addresses. Earth was never meant to be found, and the Dominion don't know it exists. Yet.

Mac (Apple silicon), Windows, Linux and Steam Deck. Latest version: 0.20.0, 1 November 2026.

Build the base

Dig rooms out of the rock, power them and staff them. Scientists study what your teams bring home, engineers turn it into weapons, armour and probes, and every room costs upkeep. Keep the books balanced or the base starves.

Step into the unknown

A probe sent through the gate might pick up movement, a structure or an energy signature. It won't tell you what's waiting. Your team finds that out when they walk out on the other side: a settlement, a garrison or an empty ruin. Linger too long on a quiet world and the gate opens behind you.

Fight smart

Cover, flanking and overwatch. The enemy take cover too, pick off the wounded and lob grenades at a squad that bunches up. Recruit fighters from allied worlds, each with their own gear and skills: the Warder's shield bash, the Hunter's poisoned arrows, the Seer's foresight, the Skirmisher's blades.

Chart the stars

Every world you reach and every glyph fragment you recover sharpens your star chart. Piece together addresses nobody gave you, and the network opens up one world at a time.

Stay hidden

Every time the Dominion catch you, they get a little closer to finding Earth. Soldiers die permanently, worlds remember how you treated them, and the rivals you let escape learn.

Readable tactics

Every to-hit chance, cover value and enemy ability is on screen. No hidden dice.

Download

Download the launcher for your computer. It installs the game, keeps both the game and itself up to date, and still starts the game when you are offline. You only download it once.

Mac. Open the dmg and drag Gatefall into Applications, then start it from there. The launcher and the game are signed and notarized by Apple. Intel Macs are not supported yet.
Windows. Put the launcher somewhere you'll keep it and run it. It isn't signed yet, so the first time Windows may say it protected your PC: click More info, then Run anyway. You should only see that once.
Steam Deck. Switch to Desktop, download the Linux launcher, tick Is executable in its Properties, then Add to Steam. In Game Mode pick the Keyboard and Mouse controller template. Be online for the first start.
Linux. Make the launcher executable and run it, or add it to Steam as a non-Steam game. There is nothing else to install: the launcher brings its own Python and everything the game needs.

Every version, with full release notes and checksums, is on the releases page.

Screens

The base: a cutaway of four floors under a desert surface, with the gate room on floor three and a base summary panel
The base. Rooms dug floor by floor under the gate, with power, bunks, storage and upkeep to balance.
Cartography: a galaxy chart with Earth marked, a strip of 37 glyphs, and an assembly bench for address fragments
Cartography. Thirty-seven glyphs around the rim, chords across the chart, and a bench where fragments become addresses.
Mission planner, loadout step: a soldier's weapon, armour and utility slots, with the squad's total weight against the gate's limit
The planner. Every slot has a weight, and the gate's limit brings the team home with whatever they find.
The dial sequence
Dialling. Seven chevrons lock, and then the team steps through.
A mission on an ice world: four soldiers in cover beside crates, a move card showing full cover to the west and that the tile is out of sight of the Thrall
Contact. The squad takes cover and the move card says what a tile gives: full cover to the west, out of the Thrall's sight.
The same fight after the first shots: the log reads that Cpl Noor Mbeki hits Thrall 1 for 6, a critical at 91%, and Thrall 1 is down
First shots. Every hit chance is on screen before you fire, and the fallen lie where they fell.
Turn two: the enemy has moved and fired, the overwatch shot landed, and the selected soldier's reachable tiles are outlined
The enemy's turn. The pod moves, fires and takes cover; overwatch answers; then it is yours again.
